About
The Sonoma Wine Country Sheepdog Trial is held at Sandra Milberg's farm in beautiful Santa Rosa, CA. This year, we will be celebrating the 28th year of this trial! For those coming to watch the event, parking is $5.00/vehicle and includes entry. All proceeds from this trial will benefit a local charity.
Course(s)
There are two open fields which most handlers refer to as the "hill course" and the "flat course." The nursery and nursery/pro-novice combined classes are held on the "flat course."
March 20, 21 & 22
$80/dog/day
Cash, awards and ribbons. May run to a standard with 2 open trials over two different courses (hill course and flat course). We will run 90 + dogs per trial and due to not sharing the weekend with Heppner, we expect a lot of dogs to enter so have added a day (Friday). Handler's meeting to be held at 7:30 am.
March 23
$35/dog NURSERY and $55/dog NURSERY/PRO-NOVICE or $45/dog Pro-Novice only
Cash and ribbons to 5th place for the combined class and ribbons to 4th place for the Nursery only class. This means there are TWO Nursery classes and only ONE Pro-Novice class.
Set-out
As in previous years, set out is "paid" and done by a lively crew of very talented people. In previous years this has included Derek Fisher, Gloria Atwater, Amy Coapman, and Ellen Skillings.
Sheep
Western range ewes
Camping
There is no RV parking at the trial but there is RV parking 15 minutes from the trial site. Camping is available at the Napa County Fairgrounds (Calistoga RV Park) in the town of Calistoga and at the Sonoma Valley Fairgrounds (RV Center). There are electrical hookups, waste disposal and showers available. Reservations are required for both.
